No playing in the Park for Earth Day...At least not using the main road... The Boss is using the facilities

Earth Day Temporary Closures

 

HOMESTEAD, Florida – Everglades National Park announces temporary closures of a portion of the main park road, and buildings located near the main entrance to the park near Homestead. 

 

Beginning midnight on Tuesday, April 21, through 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, the Park Headquarters Building, the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, and Royal Palm (Anhinga Trail) will be closed.  On Wednesday, April 22, the Main Park Road will be closed from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., between the main entrance located near Homestead to the turn off to the Long Pine Key Campground.  Other park facilities will remain open but staff and visitors will not be able to access facilities or the road in the closed areas during this 3 hour period. 

 

Operations of the Flamingo District and other areas in the park south of Long Pine Key will not be affected, but those entering the area for the day should plan for this short term road closure.

 

Visitors are encouraged to enjoy other areas of the park located off of U.S. Highway 41 at Shark Valley and the Gulf Coast District, which will not be affected.

 

These temporary closures are being implemented to accommodate a special Earth Day event in the park where President Obama will be speaking.  The event is not open to the public; however the President’s remarks will be streamed live at www.whitehouse.gov/live.

 

WHAT:       Temporary closure of a portion of the Main Park Road, Park Headquarters Building, Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, and Royal Palm (Anhinga Trail).

 

WHEN:       The buildings will be closed at midnight on Tuesday, April 21 through Wednesday, April 22 at 5:30 p.m.  A portion of the main park road will be closed on Wednesday April 22, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 p.m.

WHERE:    Homestead entrance of Everglades National Park – from the entrance sign to the Long Pine Key access road.  The Park Headquarters Building, Visitor Center, and Royal Palm (Anhinga Trail) will also be closed to the public at this time.
