Hi everybody!  Does anyone here have done the Whitney River from US-41 to Buttonwood Bay?  It is possible?

Okay, I'm interested, nope never heard of this one over there.

Let me study up.

Is the team ready?   We might be called to action.

This team member just stripped his craft in preparation for re-varnishing....but would be happy to tandem.

Jay

You probably have time to get'er wet & let her dry.

Looks like a highwater route. Only Terry (or Tony) would be crazy to try it this late in the year!

See how I push his buttons...

We'll be out there in august, just to see if it can be done!

I paddled south from 41 in this area last week. The water is low. I don't think one could make it to the river proper without much dragging/carrying. There are many airboat trails most of which are dry, almost sandy in some places.

Traveling up from the mouth is really cool but there are many obstacles.

I would like to connect either the Pumpkin or Whitney river with the well used launch on 41.

In addition to the Fakahatchee, this could be a route where the commercial tours prevalent on the East and Turner could be avoided entirely.

I'm ready for joint the team...Can't wait for completing this challenge!

I have not had time to study this but here's the general plan:

Early next season on a day when there's a mid-day low tide in Buttonwood Bay, paddle down Whitney River

to the bay, wiggle over to Blackwater River and come out at Collier Seminole State Park.   Ride

the ebb out to Buttonwood Bay and ride the flood up Blackwater River.

Document the #@% out of it (GoPros, stills, GPS's, Spot, bring out all the toys) and

we'll add it to the list of west coast fun loops.

Here's the team so far:  Pavel, Jay, Yakmaster, Terry.

With some reconnaissance the Invitational Committee might look at this.

Gene, you say there's airboat operation in there?   Yakmaster, we could do a little

surveying with airboats in the summer, the only part that needs investigating is from the

highway to about half way to the bay, the rest is a done deal.  You bring the standard fee

of an ice chest full of beer and we'd have the upper part done in a half day by airboat.

Told you I'd be running it in august!

Terry's getting too predictable. I'm starting to feel like Ann!

Don't forget the cuban sandwiches!

Count me in!

Maybe we can try to launch at the canoe ramp west to the river and try to reach the joining of the tributaries(is just about 0.85 miles path)

Count me in as well!

Predictability increases as methodology is perfected.

Just as long as you don't start snuggling on the overnights...
