All the talk on this site about wilderness camping has got me CRAVING a trip. There is a relatively new chickee called Johnson Key Chickee, which looks like it is far enough away from land, to keep the bugs down, at least somewhat. Has anyone stayed there during the summer? Is the water deep enough to tie up a 14' V-hull?

Thanks Kim! Dennis, all the backcountry sites that have porta-potties are accessible by motorboat, so you'll have no trouble getting there as long as you stay in the boat channels and off the flats banks.
I've been to both Florida Bay chickees several times in the summer, Johnson one has fewer skeeters and fewer visitors too.. Bring several tarps, they'll come in handy. Have fun!
Had an overnight visit there back in July of 2012. Looking to go back out this July.
