Everglades Exploration Network

FYI, I found the newly published second edition of Paddler's Guide to the Everglades on Amazon. Ordered it today and am looking forward to Johnny's numerous post 2005 hurricane updates. He has added the Ten Thousand Island National Refuge area as well. Most here already know, I am sure, but if you don't, Johnny's book is the essential bible for paddlers doing trips through the Everglades. He does a fantastic job describing the routes and campsites as well as adding much historical information about the area.

Molloy should have waited another year (or two) before updating his guide. Many changes are now taking place and more are expected as the ENP GMP takes shape. Since the book went to the publisher we have added Jewell Key and two new chickees in Florida Bay to the roster of campsites. Bear Lake Trail will be reopened (and possibly renamed) this fall, and another chickee may be placed in the Cape Sable backcountry. It'll be interesting to see if Molloy was able to anticipate any of these changes. For all of that, the book is still the best thing out there in hard copy for paddlers just getting to know the Wilderness Waterway. I went through two copies in my first three seasons of Everglades paddling.
He does mention that Jewel Key is a campsite now.
