Does the THERMINATOR work? Sometimes I think yes. Sometimes I think no.  On what kind of bugs? I've heard its not much different from citronella candles. What does everyone think?

Oh the snowbirds are here, they own most of the condos. The traffic is really bad in the winter as the population expands ten fold. Miami has some beautiful areas you would love but understand if you refuse to visit. I am quite happy to be 1.5 hour drive to chokoloskee or flamingo from my home. I am a 20 minute drive to beautiful Biscayne bay. Paddling, biking, hiking 365 days a year is not so bad either.

Well the weather is finally getting coolish, you might not need the thermacell :-)

What, do you think you northerners were the only ones wiped out by Hurricane Sandy?!?!?

Elliot's docks were rendered unsafe (quite unsafe I have heard) by the surge and wave action.

Unfortunately, as too common, no $$$ for rebuild. But they're working on it.

Also, teh concessionaire on the land side, shut down.

Sandy?? We weren't affected at all.. Sorry for my ignorance.  I am not Northcentric. Perhaps you remember Irene..? Maybe not.

Smudgepots work very well for no seeums. However the iron ones used in this area are kind of heavy....

Don't worry. I don't have the money to own a condo and have no desire to own one.One house is enough.. I too live in a seasonal neighborhood. Many of my neighbors are from the South and we call them seven week wonders. However their year round tax bill still has to be paid and saves me from a monstrous tax bill.

I have nothing against Miami. I don't like any city bigger than Portland ( and its too close to me). Population 65 000. My town has a population of 4000.. We don't have traffic lights and my dog runs around on 500 acres.

Now back to Thermacells please.

The only thing I can add here is something I noticed while archery hunting in September off Loop Road years ago. The deer flies were sucking me dry. I had accumulated at least 10 of those blood suckers and they were increasing by the minute. I couldnt run fast enough to escape them.. I had no headnet and I was a few miles out. If I killed 1, I had 3 more take its place. I tried running into large spider webs, but this didnt work. What could I do?

I raised my bow high above my head and to my surprise, the deer flies all left my face and accumulated on my bow. This is a strange phenomena and it seems to work every time.

Why does it work? Well Im not college educated but my best guess is that deer flies love to suck the blood out of deer antlers in velvet. Raising my bow tricked the deer flies into thinking I had antlers. Its weird how they will stick to a bow raised overhead. They will not leave. I can actually soak them down with bug spray until the extra weight on their wings will render them almost harmless. Nastly little creatures.

Moral of the story.  Always carry a headnet.

or a bow!

Or a mounted deer head.

I would imagine you can hold a stick or a branch above your head will work to get some relief. Dont laugh, you may need to use this tip some day lol and you wont find it in any book..

As far as Miami, I have lived there most of my life and there is no reason to visit unless you prefer to live dangerously.
