Its very true that rattlesnakes mostly inhabit pine/palmetto, but Diamondbacks are also very good swimmers. I am by no means an expert but the biggest Diamondback I ever saw in the BCNP was in a wet cypress slough while I was standing knee deep in water.
Diamondbacks and Moccasins seem to swim on the waters surface where they can be seen while Pythons seem to prefer swimming underwater which is a bit unnerving to me. Pythons come up to periscope while remaining submerged. The huge Pythons brought to my station by airboaters, including one well over 20 ft., came from wetland habitats but they need dry ground to nest and I would imagine they can be found anywhere..
I heard a story of a kayaker on Turner River, near its mouth, reporting a python swimming underneath its craft. Scary!
