My uniden is still working but uniden stopped making replacement batteries for it. So, I am now in the market to buy a new VHF and it must have the option of using an alkaline battery case not just rechargeable. If under $150 that would be even better. Any recommendations?

My uniden control knob snapped off so recently I bought an ICOM M 24. It does NOT use alkaline AA cells. Giving it some thought, I had my Uniden MHS  for several years and never used the backup battery pack on two week trips. But did tote it around just in case all those trips.

Battery life may not be as critical for those of us who use the radio a few times a day to check on the weather and don't leave it on.

I leave my radio on during travel to communicate with my group as we all tend to wander around either fishing or taking pictures. The batteries on my radio are old and do not hold much of a charge other than that it works just fine. It irritates me that I have to get rid of it just because Uniden stopped making batteries for it. If I would have had an optional alkaline battery case it would not be an issue.

Take a look at the Icomm M 88. Its higher priced than I wanted to go. But it can run on AA.

I just saw this and will press the button to buy it. West marine VHF radios are made by uniden and price is right for submersible, floating, 6 watts and alkaline battery tray, 3 year warranty. Now $129 on sale plus free shipping. Icomm is top of the line but they are beyond my budget right now,
