The rain has spiked water station 251432080444100 up from -0.35 to 0.00.

This makes Craigheads Pond Canoe Trail paddleable.   The water will run off the tip of Florida

quick but with beautiful weather expected, this weekend is a rare opportunity to enjoy this

excellent advanced trip once more.

Dan, can that SPOT gizmo integrate any better?  If that's all the better

one of those is it ain't worth carrying in the canoe.  It shows your

trip way off, going over land with long distance straight lines.

And what's up with the mileage?

The problem with SPOT is that it only sends your location every 15 min. Great for keeping in touch with loved ones but not so great for tracking. So, it doesnt quite get all the twists and turns you make. I will try to post my track from my actual GPS, that will be much more accurate.

cool! i still have those large laminated aerials!!

i'm ready to go again, this time in a kayak ~  ;)

That sounds awesome, maybe a late spring run will be possible! :))

Flex!   Think!

"Maybe a late spring run will be possible." !!  ???"

You're going to have to sit in the front of the class and stay after

school.   Taylor Slough needs the HIGHEST water level.  When's

the dry season for the last thousands of years?  Spring!

End of summer is the only time this trip is possible.

And don't you giggle Esther, Keith told me something about you being

confused about degrees, minutes, seconds ?

Dan, don't bother, you probably followed the airboat trail which IS the

aerial map you followed, the same one Keith posted.  Obviously your

GPS will have the same route.

Everybody is going to have to stay after school.

Keith told me something about you being

confused about degrees, minutes, seconds

I never!

...maybe a late spring run will be possible!

Maybe we could hike it...

All kidding aside, water station 251432080444100 has only dropped .05 feet since the

spike on 17 January and rain is in the forecast for tomorrow.   It's looking like we'll get

another weekend to paddle Craigheads Pond Canoe Trail.   You've got the map from this

discussion, just pack your picnic basket and enjoy.

Terry!  Yeah, not me on the degrees, minutes and seconds.   If you recall, Charlie and I were the two that headed straight in the right direction. So what if Flex and I packed a canoe for a week-long paddle. And be nice to Flex.  In his world time is merely an illusion.

What did you have for breakfast anyway?  A cup or ARGHHH, growl and crunch!  You should type stuff like that in Pirate speak!  It's more amusing.  At least I didn't mention how high the chickees are in Florida Bay.  Now, I'm giggling.  I almost feel spanked and I didn't even do it!

It will be a good weekend.  Come on out!  You can lead us with your grace and wisdom oh great master.  LOL

" ...maybe a late spring run will be possible!

Well there's no denying the logic of early fall water levels, that's for sure..

I was thinking if you have 2 days, and you have to get out/portage to camp at Coe anyway, maybe the run could be done paddling and hiking, slough slogging!  I'd kinda like to see what it looks like dry too..would it involve more pulling boat vs paddling boat??

I paddled the trail with friends yesterday.  The gauge was at -.05 that morning.  The route was passable with only some areas posing a wee bit of a challenge.

We went off the mapped trail on the way out and found deeper water further north than on the marked trail, which we followed on the return.  It was a longer route with several spots of higher elevation along the way.  We spotted Palms, Cypress and several nice gator holes along the way, or so the cattails indicated.  We ran across a smaller platform (will post coordinates later on).  We ended the route at the large platform.  The day was perfect.

Special thanks to Terry and Keith for sharing this most awesome spot.

Thanks Esther for the report.   So it's looking like that's about the lowest we can have

to paddle this trial.   That's not bad, a close to February paddle to Craigheads Pond.

Everybody, record it so you know, enter in your journals:

Craigheads Pond Canoe Trail needs -0.5 feet at 251432080444100

Thank you, Terry.  The gage on January 29, 2011 was at -.05  not -.5.  On January 22, 2011, it was at -.03, a tad lower, and still passable.

We will paddle out again when the water is lower and report back.  If I had to guess, I would agree that -.5 is still passable.
