Cape Sable Area on Fire

Flew in over Florida Bay/ Flamingo last night. At first I was confused the Cape Sable Area and a small area was covered in lights, as I got closer I realized that the whole Cape area and a smaller area NW of Flamingo near Bear or Gator Lake was on fire. It could posibly be a controlled burn but it looked pretty extensive. Besides why would they start a controlled burn with a government shutdown looming. Does anyone have any information?
