The tent survey discussion reminded me of these. I made them to "stake" down a tent fly while camping on a chickee. The "free-standing" part of free-standing tents only applies to the tent and not the fly, which still needs stakes to keep the vestibules open. The looped end attaches to your fly tie-down, and the 3" aluminum bar slips between the deck boards on the chickee and catches on the underside of the deck. The loop is a slip knot and can be shortened to make the tent fly tight. The big yellow fishing float keeps the stake from slipping through the gap in the deck boards if you drop one, and provides visibility to keep you from tripping on the rope at night. It also...floats...if you drop it in the water.

Awesome!! I was planning a trip to one of the Chickees and was wondering how to secure my tent to the structure. I was thinking lasso the boards, but never did it cross my mind to do what you have done. This is shear genius. Thank you for the post :)
