Location: Buttonwood Bay to the gulf in the Ten Thousand Island National Wildlife
refuge. Shown on NOAA Nautical Chart 11430. On the route between Collier
Seminole State Park and Tiger/Picnic Keys.
Condition: The entire Buttonwood Bay area is very shallow at low tide. Fish Hawk
Creek is open and has paddle-able deep water right up to Buttonwood Bay but
at the bay during low tide it's only a layer of less dense mud on top of thicker
mud. A canoe will pass through it but it's using the paddle as a push pole
until about the middle of the bay. Like Gill Rattle Creek, attempt this route
only at higher tides.
