I'm looking to get my hands on a set of good quality printed topographic maps for the south Florida area. Anyone have specific companies or brands that I should look at?

Thanks I appreciate it. I will do that tonight. I realize my problem is not with your maps because I had the same confusion with Google Earth. I think its the wrong settings on my GPS.
Sorry its taken me so long but its been a while since I took cooridinates from these old maps to my GPS and Im trying to figure it out now.
Dal;e,
Let's do this. Please find a spot on the Gmap4 map that we can use for a test.
Double click that spot. The map will re-center at that location.
Now click Menu ==> Show map URL
Please post that URL in this thread
OK here is the url centered on the Forty Mile Bend check station where I work.http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?ll=25.962979,-81.049355&a...
I couldnt find menu but here is your map (I used print screen and cropped) and my GPS showing "Fmbcheck" for "FortyMile Bend Check Station" and the cooridinates are different. What is going on?
BTW when I zoom in your maps are beautiful Jeff. I need some of those coordinates lol but I need to figure out why they are different from mine. Is my GPS set to the wrong Position Formatt? I tried to change it no luck yet.
Try this: http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?ll=25.760934,-80.827568&a... I found menu
I just realized when I zoom in, your topo is exactly the same as my 1971 paper map which is great. This could save me a lot of overlay work. I love these old maps. I could even find my lost logging tram. I just need help trying to figure why the coordinates dont match my GPS. If I enter the coordinate, its in the wrong place. Thanks.
I see you found the 'Menu' button on the Gmap4 map.
And you provided a Gmap4 link with these WGS84 coords for Forty Mile Bend check station: 25.760934,-80.827568
The Gmap4 coords appear to be different than your GPS because Gmap4 displays coords in decimal degrees. By contrast your GPS screen is set to displays coords using degrees and decimal minutes.
Gmap4 and your GPS are both displaying the correct coords for the check station. They are just using different formats for their displays. If you change your GPS to use decimal degrees then your GPS will very closely match Gmap4.
Also, right-click the check station on the Gmap4 map. The display that appears includes coords in degrees and decimal minutes.
Yes I see that. Thanks. I used the decimal degrees coordinates in the bottom right corner. If I use the degrees and decimal minutes in the center its correct.
I wish I had known this 2 years ago. As you probably gather, Im old school but Im trying to use my GPS more. Its so much easier than working off my paper maps. I need to move into the new world of modern technology lol.
I think I should change my GPS setting to the second option hddd mm'ss.s" Is this correct?
(My screen did not show any 'Reply' button on your last post)
I recommend that you set your GPS Position format to ddd.dddddd
This is decimal degrees. This option should be near the top of the list that you GPS displays.
My reply button is gone too Jeff. Too many posts. I have a hddd.ddddd option and I will try it. Thanks.
Your advice worked and now I am able to transfer coordinates from your Gmap4 site to my GPS. Thank you for the help.
Bad news - Good news
The "t3 Topo Low" maps in Gmap4 have stopped working. Those map tiles were coming from a Microsoft service that used to be called Terraserver. Microsoft has terminated that service.
The same topo tiles are available from a USGS service called "The National Map". The next update to the Gmap4 code will be posted on my server Real Soon Now and will include the topos from this different source.
Whenever you use Gmap4 you are always automatically using the most recent version. Also, after I update the code then for the next 2 weeks you will see a short note in the lower left corner alerting you to the code update and giving you a link to "What's New".
