Help with volunteer effort to clean up at Everglades National Park - Chokoloskee Island is meeting place.

INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEAN UP DAY - SEPT 25th, 2010

Everglades Area Tours and Chokoloskee Island Park will coordinating volunteer efforts in the waters of Everglades National Park.  Chokoloskee Island Park will be a designate launch area.  Keep Collier Beautiful will be supplying gloves, trash bags and tee shirts for the Volunteers.

We hope do things in several parts:

1)    Volunteer Kayakers will launch out of Chokoloskee Island Park and will, hopefully, target causeway litter and the fishing lines in the mangroves

2)   We will be bringing one or two boats to Highland Beach to get the trap ropes and other debris off the beach … Highland is a mess and needs help badly, but it also should be fun.   The tides are such that we will not be able to get on  to Highlands until about 11:30.  As such, we plan to leave about 10:30.  You should show about 10:00.

3) For kayakers who want to work the outside islands and that can get to CIP by 7:30, we will shuttle them out to a nearby barrier island, Jewel Keys, Comer, Jack Daniels.  They will then be able to attach the beach flotsam and then ride the tidal flow back to CIP. If they can not paddle the trash back, they can leave it and we ill retrieve it with a powerboat.

·         The kayak shuttles and the boat trip to Highlands require direct coordination with us.  Volunteers need to contact Capt. Charles Wright or Jason Sine at 239-695-3633 in advance or they can email us Tours@EvergladesAreaTours.com

·         Volunteers need to have their own lunches, waters kayaks and safety gear

·         Chokoloskee Island Park is offering free launches to the volunteers

·         Pot Luck Dinner that evening at Chokoloskee Island Park.
