They finally found the missing hunter in the Big Cypress. http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2009/nov/19/jame-mosch-missing-everg...

This guy was less than a mile from the Turner River Road & leass than a mile from I-75...but he kept going around in circles for 5 days. If he would have stayed in one place or walked in a straight line, he would have been found days ago! This case shows how critical it is to carry at least a compass when you go a wandering.

It's a jungle out there...

So true, a simple discount store hiking compass gets the job done, I was getting last minute supplies for my upcoming trip and I couldn't resist to buy one I saw on sale for $3.99; plastic made in China, but not bad as a backup of the backup.
It is easy to get lost in the Big Cypress. We completed a maintenance hike a couple of weekends ago water levels are getting low. If any of you are hiking into the northern section, bring a gallon per day if leaving the main trail. A compass is a very good thing to have along.

Glad this guy was found.
