There was a report after Isaac that The Nightmare was impassible.  Anyone have an update on the trail status?  Thanks much.  Jay

Good question, Jay. When are you planning on going through? I should have an answer by mid-December if you don't get one by then. Jim

Thanks for responding Jim.  I'll make a few calls.  My trip will be a little earlier than yours and I will post here if I find an answer.

Jay, a couple of my friends went through November 9th. Here is the report, sounds like you may need some patience but it is passable:

The first 200 feet were fine - tight, but fine. Then there was about 300-400 feet of hell. Very tight in some places and we had to pull ourselves along through a few places and use the branches to steer the kayaks through because it was too narrow and overhung to use a paddle. Someone had been there before us and broke a few branches .... we also broke a few passing through to do out part in clearing.

Thanks very much for the report.  Sounds like my trip down the Turner in September.  Hoping it is wide enough to get a canoe through.  I can always bail out.

Jay

I can get through a lot more snags in comfort using my canoe instead of the kayak. You will be fine but might get a few more scratches on your canoe.

:)  - Scratches - comes with the territory.  Nothing a little sand paper and varnish can't fix  :)

Ouch on those scratches, Jay. I've done everything I could to minimize them in my BJX the last 4 years. This trip will be the inaugural voyage for my friend Jason & me in our new Superior Expedition decked canoes. The first scratches are going to be painful. We take delivery tomorrow! We're planning on being out the 29th through the 11th, give or take a day. Maybe see you out there? Do you like sake? I'll bring an extra liter or two if you do. Oh, by the way Vivian, you are my idol. I've sure enjoyed your posts over the last few years. I hope to meet you someday.

I'll be out there...a bit before you.  Perhaps we will cross paths.  Thanks for the offer on the Sake - but I will pass.  I'll be out in the Voyager...maybe with a blue spray deck....at this point...maybe not.

Good luck with your new boats.  Have a great trip!

Thanks, you too!

Rudderless, congrats on the new decked canoes! Please report on how they worked out for you on this trip. I've got my eye on possibly a modified version of one, lighter and lower profile. Would like to hear your thoughts on this after you've tried one out for a couple of trips.

Have a great trip guys!

Since i've come back from the Glades, my nightmares are starting to come back! oh no ..   ;))

I live on Elm Street.
