Payne's Prairie Preserve

Anyone been there before? It's very near Gainesville, FL. Good things to do? Is it worth it?

Big open grassland just south of Gville. You drive across on I-75 & US 441.

Gator legend was that apparently used to be deep, had riverboats & traffic. One day a new sinkhole popped & drained it all. Boats left high & dry.

Never been to far off the road. Don't want to date myself...but that's where I saw Halley's Comet...
