Everglades Exploration Network

Noticed that the site is gone ?? I always thought it an excellent resource - it was a complete & concise guide to the ENP campsites and I always liked to link to it.

What's going on?

That's a new self bailing chickee. Your gear, when left unattended or overstocked, is automatically cleared off the deck. Much better now, though.

I'll miss the old Plate. It had character, built on the old dock, wedged back in the mangoves. Now it's just more of the same, the standardization of the wilderness. Used to be like going to Jimbo's now it's like going to TGIFriday's.

Two questions… when was the date the New Harney River chickee was built? We were there in Jan 2012 and it was nowhere that low.

Also Plate Creek is now just a normal farther out in the water chickee.

If you are looking for a picture of the new Harney River Chickee (at a pretty high tide) - here you go.

I guess the bugs were bad back there... but the four times I stayed on the old..never had much of a problem. Of course I 'm a snowbunny so not peak of bug season. There is a cooking shelf with a small lip on the back on the new Plate Creek chickee., but you still have to watch that you don't bump a pot and send it overboard..
