Liked the shot of the backside flat. Woke up to that view one morning (our kayaks were on that side) After not much thought, we decided it was quite a bit easier to portage across the island than across the mudflat...

She sure was a special place!

New lodge and restaurant are part of the Flamingo Commercial Service Plan. I posted the final document in our Resources forum. It describes the proposed facilities in some detail.

No I haven't been back since Wilma. I've been back to the park a few times but have always gone back into WWB and points North. I've heard that the black mangroves on the West end survived barely. Any updates?

I was able to take my whole family to CRK in May before the hurricanes struck. We stayed at the lodge so my elderly parents and young kids were able to escape the bugs, heat, and lightning midday but still able to enjoy the wonders of Flamingo. I hope they rebuild some lodging so out of town visitors can continue to spend more than a few hours down there. When I come down I usually travel by skiff and we set a tent up on the bow so we don't need to use a chickee.

Carl Ross was always my favorite spot and I miss camping there. Have you been out there since Wilma?
