Usually triangular and short ...

Here's some cypress knees
that are pencil-like instead:

You have an interesting job Robert.  The cypress seem to be all green now. Do they know the purpose of knees? Do they help the tree breathe? Do they anchor the roots?

Answer:

C. Both a and b.

(That and for spearing hydrologists.  That particular cluster was very pointy and sharp!)

I like the sound of hoofs hitting Cypress knees. Deer and hog both. It sounds like a wooden mallet hitting wood. And sometimes its loud.  I always wondered why the deer dont trip. I guess its because they have four legs.

Robert, are there plans to fill in L-28 Tie Back canal?

I wish ... no time soon anyway.  And you're right, the canal is the biggest problem.  If it were filled in more water could be released across the levee.  Currently, when the gates are open all that water just goes south in the canal.
