I wonder what caused the fire.

Any ideas what the Park Service intends to do?

wow, near total destruction too .. that sucks!

they just did a maker-over on it only last year .. sad~

this is what it used to look like:  https://kayakfari.wordpress.com/random-gallery-2/florida-south-flor...

Thats terrible.  I too am curious how this happened.

My understanding is that some motorboaters had a gasoline fire that consumed the southside platform and the walkway all the way to the centerpoint...as well as their boat and gear.

Had to call in for a rescue. You can imagine how happy the NPS personnel were on this call...

sounds very plausible, had to be one hell of a quick fire (accelerant) to consume everything like that ..

what happened to the wreckage? what about the contamination and cleanup? who pays in cases like this if it was "user error"??

inquiring minds want to know!

.. anybody have a link to to more info?

Sorry to hear it....but at least the family of rats have been re-located.

I too would like to know who pays. Hopefully nobody was hurt in this accident.

i stayed there in april, it was already sweltering... and the rats ate little chunks out of my brand new cushions on my skiff...

I've been restraining myself from making this comment but seriously, what kind of person can catch a chickee on fire when you are surrounded by water on all sides? If your boat is on fire, push it off and let it burn! Really...

lol

Yeah, but can you imagine how they felt, sitting on what's left of their disaster zone,  waiting for NPS to come and "rescue" them?!?!?!
