Everglades Exploration Network

Was driving down Birdon Rd and came across this sign. They've bulldozed roads through the woods and have also bulldozed sections along the canal. Looking at the satellite it appears that they are clearing the old roads? Does anyone have info they can share on this project? There are also burns going on in the area.

It might be part of the Turner River Restoration project.

They keep trying to get more water to go down the historical watershed rather than the canal.

You'd be surprised how hard it is to get water not to drain into a canal once you dig it!

This was in the Miami Herald, good to read that will also provide more opportunities for paddlers.

"The latest project, aimed at improving on those efforts, is estimated to cost $250,000, with funding from the South Florida National Parks Trust, Collier County, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission."
