Was driving down Birdon Rd and came across this sign. They've bulldozed roads through the woods and have also bulldozed sections along the canal. Looking at the satellite it appears that they are…Continue

Can you identify this structure? - Robert's Lake Strand

Does anyone know what this structure is? It appears to be a cage anchored to the ground. You've probably seen it along the Florida Trail inside Robert's Lake Strand. I couldn't quite figure it out…Continue

Tarpon Lake

Made it out to Tarpon lake in the Big Cypress addition lands today. For anyone who hasn't tried this hike it's a 60 foot deep sinkhole located about a 6 mile round trip down a buggy trail from mile marker 51 off 75. The buggy trail is just a short hop off the levee road and it's an easy half day hike to a pretty awesome little oasis in the woods.…See More

"I couldn't find the spur to lake #1. Just walked through the woods finding the path of least resistance. It wasn't too difficult. Lake #2 was a challenge though. Lot of zigzagging through thick stuff."

"There's a way of embedding imagery to my GPS. It's possible to take older sat photos which show the spur better and embed them. I just got to figure out exactly how. This way we could follow the spur prisicely."

"No luck on finding the pump. Had a real hard time finding indication of a spur. That's a photo of the lake closest to gator hook. We visited all three between the roberts lake trail and gator hook. All three were almost dry."

"It might be part of the Turner River Restoration project. They keep trying to get more water to go down the historical watershed rather than the canal. You'd be surprised how hard it is to get water not to drain into a canal once you dig it!"

I fear that this trap may have contained bait to sterilize the wild hogs. I have reports of other traps that were seen being removed.
