I hope to be done in February.  I call this shot "Clampzilla".  Hopefully it is at least shaped like the second shot.

Thanks for the pic, very simple solution. I currently have my gps mount on my footbrace it entends out beyond the snap cover. Your solution wouldfor me if I put a bolt through the area (where the compass is) and instead of a compass this stand would swivel out to clear the snap deck.

By using a threaded insert you could put the threaded insert and bolt at any point along the mount.  My bold is just to the right of the compass  I can swivel the mount so the GPS is closer at hand.  It can only swivel as far as the thwart bag straps will allow, but maybe next time I will try that strap under the mount.

If you are not familiar with threaded inserts you drill a whole slightly deeper than the insert length and the specific diameter for the insert you are using.  In this case the 1/4-20 insert specified a 3/8" whole.  The insert exterior has wood screw threads and you just screw it into the whole you drilled.  There you have a machine screw thread in wood.  You can get knob bolts from Granger in whatever size you need.  I think the threaded insert was $1.59 and the knob was @3.59.  It keeps you from having to use through bolts and wing nuts.

I subscribe to Wooden Boat Magazine. They have a 'Launchings" section. I sent them a picture and description of the canoe last Fall.  Doesn't look like I made the magazine - but they put it on the website.

I'm sure many here will recognize the location of the photo.

Congrats Jay!

That all you brother if I tried to do something like building my boat it would last seconds in the water before going down. I do have to say it is a great skill to have, and great to see the photos!

Thanks very much to you both.
