Everglades Exploration Network

My name is Carlos, and  I respond to a few names such as John bob/Miami101/Dad/ and so on. I have been absent for quite some time, and left this site due to a falling out with two members a long time ago. I will not go into details as I do not like to bring up negative things when there are lots of good things about this site, and lots of good people here.

This posting is my reintroduction to this site, and my first order of business is to ask the other members to forgive my past responses in which the method was less than respectful, and a bad example to others. Also to thank Keith, and other members for allowing me to part take again in this community  of people who share a common love for the Glades. I guess time can change a person in lots of ways, and hopefully for the better. (I’m getting old!)

A little bit about my self I started going to the Everglades when I was five, and six years old. My than father was a military person who serve in Vietnam war in his youth. He would love to go down to Krome, and 8st of those paths to fish, and walk around. Years later I was reintroduced to the Everglades. I had a desire to go to Flamingo, and a strange drive to return each week. With this drive in my head, and no information I pick up a two person Kayak, and started the process of heading into the park. In those days I would show up in shorts, T-shirt, barefooted, and Kayak's were not common. Needless to say I soon gain respect for the wild life as I was sitting on my kayak with my feet in the water watching a large Croc pass near. I kept going back to the Everglades, and found myself wanting to be less around people more around nature. The process of learning had started and the fisherman was becoming the wild life lover. There was a period of time in which it was not common for me to be lost due to not having a GPS, nor maps, and some how finding my way back with almost no water to spare. Also this site help me start understanding more about the requirements for the Everglades visit, and locations. Each time I visit the Everglades it was coming home, and I had something driving me.  I later learned from my grandfather, and grandmother that members of our family came from this area years ago.

Present day: I try to go to the ENP almost every week end all year long via Kayak’s, or Gheenoe. My trips are more safe, plan, timed, and range on areas. At present I started to look into a good camera because all of my photos come from a pocket camera. The same camera for years now..lots of shots that would have been great. I have started to visit 8st, Krome, and look for rivers from my GPS to follow out to the Oceans. Also have start to walk tails, and love area near Holiday Park. Any location the saw grass growths, and the yellow butterflies call home.

With this said I’m happy to be back. It looks like some of my old photos are still here.

Camping season is around the corner so is a great time to join back and share your photos and stories.

I camp all year long. In the summer you have some of the best Animal sitings. This week end I will upload some photos, and also be back in the Everglades again. Swamp angels, heat, wind, and bugs are part of the fun.
