I have to see if there is anyway to get the park to open the path. I have to past under. My goal was to make it to the Lungs, but thought if the tide went up I could not past back again. Also in Long Lake there look to be a path to Little Henry Lake which might take you back to West Lake.

Sorry about how I wrote the below response. I have been working some long hours, and lack of sleep is landing.
In fact I have not been to Flamingo in 4 months which is a life time for me. I hope to be going every week again soon once I complete my present school task, and work slows down.

On a good note I sold my boat, and I'm picking up another Native Kayak.....so I got room for one more person.

I going to reserve it for the year...LOL
I love this area......you have no idea I done it every other week end 18 miles round trip.
From Flamingo ocean side, and from West Lake...........I so happy to hear this...

All I need not is a camp site around Bear Lake...............

The new chickie's location is plotted on the map in the Flamingo visitors center. As I recall it was on the west side of umbrella key. In order to use it you would have to get a permit at the visitors center and I am sure they could provide you with a lat lon for your GPS. Christi or Bob would be happy to give you directions.

I talked to Rangers bob and Christie yesterday and they mentioned that this blockage might already be cleared. Also they built a chickie south of shark Pt near Umbrella Key So now you could camp just a few miles south of Aligator Creek and attack the Lungs from the south end. It will also open up Rankin Bight and Santini Bight to weekend kayak exploration.

I sign up with TOM to start helpping at the park. I have not been there for 3 months I been working on my PMP, so time has not been my friend. I try to make it out there every weekend, or once a week.

I did that trip out to through the lungs two years ago and the going was tough in a few places. As far as trail clearing it is mostly volunteers. I will ask Tom if he's interested in putting it on our list. the blockage in the picture looks pretty easy and we have some great hand saws that would cut through that in a few miinutes but we need to get permission from the park.
