Everglades Exploration Network

Date: 29 December 2008

Location: The north creek out of Canepatch. Shown on NOAA Nautical Chart 11432
but not named. Ignore the intersections shown on the chart at 25' 39" N and
56' 50" W and 25' 53" N and 56' 56" W they are so overgrown they don't even
exist. Once in this creek there's only one way to go.

Condition: Open and trimmed this season by NPS Volunteers. Deep water and
a small motorboat could make it through. Excellent for hand propelled craft.

I've told ya'll this before and I'll say it again - you're really missing out
on a lot of Wilderness Waterway by not starting or ending at Collier
Seminole State Park. It's a good one day paddle from CSSP to
Tiger/Picnic Key and you never leave federal or state protected waters.
You can paddle to Tiger/Picnic open water or backcountry. You even have Grocery Place backcountry campsite in CSSP if you
get a late first day start. The marina at CSSP is top quality, less
crowded and they lock the gate at night so a car left there is
saver than at EC. CSSP has marked the route down Blackwater
River and to Grocery Place. Two things made this the perfect extension
for the WW: The opening of Tiger/Picnic Keys for camping and the
acquisition/protection of the lands and water between. Now, it makes
so much sense the magenta line on the chart should be extended
to go there.

No worries getting through to Canepatch from the creeks north of the site. I just did it (Feb 2011). No gator, no python and no bugs. what a great site.
