This is a new campsite that has opened and is between Rabbit and Picnic Key. Best way to get to it is via Sand Fly Pass.

Great! I was just there on New Years Day thinking 'this would be a fine place to camp'. This must be
a Kingston Key replacement.
They placed the porta potty on the northern spit. This is where that deep channel runs through between islands. I think it may be the replacement for Kingston but I thought they were building a platform near Jack Daniels? This is a busy thoroughfare as boaters use that channel quite a bit. I will try to check it out this weekend and let you know more.
please do Vivian...and tell me what us kayak anglers can expect to catch in that deep channel near the porta-john, maybe you'll find that redfish you've been looking for!
Rolando, the area around Jewel between Choko Pass and Kingston are all good areas to fish. I am sure you will find no trouble finding them :-) One year when I was on my way to Kingston Chickee for an overnight trip, we stopped at Jewel for lunch. Tide was moving in that deep pass between the two islands and I caught a legal grouper by jigging the pass as I fished from shore. A delicous grouper dinner that night! Since the hurricane came through the pass is changed but worth a try if camping there.

One of my friends went out last week and stayed at Jewel. She reported many rats but no racoons. Do not know why this year the islands are just full of rats and racoon population low. Anyone have any clues?
sweet, that grouper dinner must have been quite lovely, I'm going to try to make a day trip out there soon as camping might very well be over for me soon...the no-seeum's are back!
