Everglades Exploration Network

Hi all,

Do paddlers have to apply in person for a permit and camping permissions - or is it possible to get an agent to apply on your behalf?

I'm not being lazy - its just that as I'm coming from the UK to do the thu trip in 10 days I want to maximise my chances of getting on the water as soon as possible and minimise the risk of having to wait a few days before I can get going!

Thanks

Not sure what you are really achieving by having someone get the permit for you. I guess they can get there a day early if you think your sites will be full. They don't require ID when pulling permits so  I don't see why you couldn't, but again,  I'm not really sure what you gain by doing it.

If you want to leave before the ranger stations open at 8, to catch a tide or beat the wind or just to get an early start, you have to get your permits the day before (before 4:30). But not more than a day before. Kind of inconvenient.

I have yet to fail to get my desired route the day I want it. However I avoid Christmas and New Years and try not to hit spring break, though I have not figured out just when that is.

Your best defense is to be flexible about particular campsites.  Usually there are nearby choices.
