Chokoloskee- 10,000 Islands in early May? Dumb idea?

Thinking about a quick two day trip out to one of the islands this week or next. Have never been this late in the season. Is it bearable? Not so much concerned with the sun, just bugs. This would mostly be a quick fishing trip out/overnight/back. Anyone been recently that can offer a report?

I have been out in May and June.  Fortunately the wind was up both times to the point that event the sand flies couldn't fly.  That made it bearable.  I actually had a great time.

I dream of a world where the sandflies cant fly and biting flies dont bite and mosquitos dont suk blood and no see ums cant see and poison ivy is not poisonous and red ants do not exist and the summers are not hot.......

If it was like February year round, we couldn't afford to live here. Thank God for Summer, it what keeps the snowbirds from moving down here & chasing us out!

Agreed! :-). Although I know a few that love to camp out during the summer and have perfected certain techniques to keep their sanity. The use of tarps, permethrin treated clothing, Bimini tops over their canoes, battery operated fans inside tents, large three man tents, cotton twin sheets instead of sleeping bags, etc. Most important is keeping days to low mileage and bringing lots of water.
