Okay, I absolutely love my kayaks but I need a canoe.  Mind you, I said need, not want : )  So here's the first question, are you familiar with Mad River's Peter Pond series canoes.  One is available locally, fiberglass, 17', intact hull, gunwales, seats., it's probably about 25-30 years old but in decent shape.   The glass above the bow and stern, covering the bulk head areas is damaged from being stored upside down.  There are two gashes, about 4" long on either section,  The gel coat is pretty much rubbed off from years of many landings.  Any thoughts, tips, suggestions?  I am also looking at other options.  Please HELP!

Sounds like a big restoration project that will add to that $300 sale price plus your investment of time. You lookin for a solo or trandem canoe?
Tandem, initially. I can do the glass work myself, plus it's not structural damage. I can spray the gel coat at a friends shop. I estimated $150 and a weekend of work. I won't pay more than $200 as-is though.
Are you going to solo that Esther..? If so such a big sail will propel you right back in your kayak unless there is lots of stuff or people going with you.

I am not familiar with that model though. You really do not need to gel.. you can use a marine paint. Sure you will have to paint again.Gel isnt structural though it sure helps against oyster bars.

Wish we knew more about what size canoe you need. That something that fits has floated by so to speak does not mean something else may not float by. Or it might be just the challenge you are seeking!
Vivian just emailed me about an Old Town Pathfinder..thats rebranded the Camper 15 which is a pretty good boat to solo.
Thanks, Kim! I really prefer a tandem to start. I'm not opposed to two boats though : ) I will continue to solo in my kayaks.

The Pathfinder Vivian mentioned is probably the best fit. I'm hoping to reach the guy soon, Jason I think. If you know/run into him, Vivian e-mailed my number to his neighbor. I'll be in the area Oct 30 and 31. I can e-mail it to you as well. My e-mail is emluft at aol. com (I believe the site automatically hides addresses.)

The Peter Pond has a nice line. It's a Pat Moore design, swede form. I do see that one as more of a project boat, which is why I have held off. Structurally, it is intact. The damage on the glass is to cosmetic portions of the boat. She's too pretty to cover with awlgrip though, I did think about it. Just an old girl that needs a makeover. Maybe I relate. LOL
