Does anyone know if it is possible to paddle a canoe down the Snake Bight canal? I ran into some paddlers the other day around Christian Point and they said they were coming from Snake Bight. That got me wondering how one starts paddling from over there.

Unless things have changed drastically I don't believe you can get to the open water from the Snake Bight trail.. if that is what you are asking.

I've been to the end of the hiking trail a few times and never saw water at the observation area... just yards and yards of mud. And I've been to the same area from the water, and saw the same yards of mud.

I do believe it is still possible to portage a canoe to the water via the Christian Point Trail. I did that once, years ago (with a canoe cart) and decided it was much easier to just paddle there from the marina.

OK thanks Gary. I agree that it would be an easier paddle from the marina than portaging along the trail.

You can just keep in mind the tides... I rather paddle from the front of the park. If you looking for a hidden gem look for a hidden lake on the right side of Snake Bite. You can almost see it on maps, and shows up on some GPS. Keep in mind there are large Croc's there, and tides may play a role.

It will be on the right side once you get out to Snake Bite.....this is a very little know thing...

Also if the bugs are in like last time I was in Snake bite they will eat you alive. Snake Bite from the road is one of the few places this year I seen a large amount of bugs.

The ditch alongside Snake Bight Trail is way too clogged with trees and branches. I towed my kayak with my bicycle down the trail twice in years past and launched down at the observation deck at the end. You have to catch it at high tide and hope that big gator isn't blocking the narrow passage to Snake Bight.

It would be a great way to get out to the east side if were not so clogged up.
